DG Chuck's Message - Oct 2020

Happy October Lions,

Where does the time go? Summer is over and now we can think about Fall. What a pretty time of the year. I am hoping that we can still do some “trick or treating” or even some “trick or trunking”. Speaking of fall fun, I hope to see as many of you come out on October 25th to the District Halloween Party. You can come in costume or just come for some good old fashioned fun and fellowship, enjoy some good food, fun games and maybe even some square dancing!! Mark the date—October 25th at Alwine Civic Center from 2-5pm.

If you are looking to help grow and strengthen your club, please reach out to me or PDG Charlie McGrew, because NAMI is right up your alley! We are still looking for more lions to step up and think outside of the box. Today’s times are changing and we must adjust… much like the changes in the seasons… as our days are getting shorter, and we adapt.

Some service ideas for you all to keep in mind… have a food drive, white cane collection (if you are permitted to do so in your areas), read books to children at the local library, vision s

creenings at the schools or local libraries. We also need to keep those in our prayers that have recently suffered severe losses as a result of the devastating hurricanes in the south. We will be holding a supply drive to help provide relief to Louisiana. More details will be forthcoming from PDG Tom Gregg & PDG Lance Remic, so please take note and help those in need as Lions do.

With Fall arriving, we all know that means Mass Induction is coming soon. 2VDG Tony has sent out the notices and the reservation forms. Sponsors, please reach out to your new members and get your reservations sent in as soon as possible. The event will be held at Lakeview again this year with social distancing and masks as a requirement. Our guest speaker for the evening will be our current Council Chair (PDG) Marilyn Wagner and her Partner in Service, PDG Steve Wagner. I hope to see a good turn out of new members, sponsors and Lions in general this year.

Special Reminder, for clubs that have not paid their District, State and International dues, please get them in as there will be a special election held in November due to the cancellation of the State Convention and the International Convention, and if your club’s dues are not paid, those who would otherwise be eligible to vote will be unable to do so. Also, please remember that District Donations can be submitted at any time—the form is available in each newsletter, on the District Website, or from me.

One oth

er reminder is of the Fall Leadership Symposium. It will be held on Sunday, October 18th from 1-6p at Alwine Civic Center. This is a great opportunity to meet other Lions from the state and to enhance your knowledge of Lions. Additional details will be forthcoming, and if you are interested, please let me know as soon as possible.

I have been really enjoying my club visits so far this year. I have been welcomed with open arms and good food and fellowship. I love the opportunity to visit with you all and get brought up to date on what your club is doing. There are a few clubs who have asked to res

chedule the in person visits. Please let me know when you want to reschedule or if your

club would like to have the visit completed via Zoom. This is a great new opportunity to keep in contact, but yet stay safe.

One last thing… service, service, service… I cannot stress the importance of continuing your service and or finding alternative ways to serve your communities during this pandemic. Remember, we are all adapting to the changes around us, and it certainly cannot hurt to try something new, or to try something that was attempted in the past. If you don’t try it, you will not know if it will work or not. Perhaps an online flea market, or an online apple dumpling sale, or online ticket sales, or a virtual run/walk. And remember to report your service and fundraising activities in MyLion. If you are not able to do so, please send your information to me, or directly to Lion Denise Poole who is our District Administrator and it will be entered for you.

Yours in Service,

DG Chuck
