Notes from the DGs

DG Message - July 2020

Hello Fellow Lions,

I hope you are all doing well and staying safe. Are you looking forward to another great year of Lionism? I know I am!! Again, I would like to thank you all for your support. I am thankful for your confidence in me to serve as your District Governor for the upcoming 20/21 Lions year.

My theme for this year is “OPEN UP FOR NEW IDEAS”. What I mean is what it says. Get out into your communities and neighborhoods. Be seen. Do new things. Find out what your community would like the Lions Club to do for them. Get involved with your local sports or recreation programs, scouting programs, and other organizations in your areas. Ideas that might not have worked in the past might take off today. Just because they did not work then doesn’t mean they won’t work now. Times are changing, so we Lions also need to change. We cannot dwell in the past as we are in the present and must look to the future so set examples for continued growth & expansion of Lionism.

I have scheduled my DG visits for the year. I know I have spoken with many of you, and if your club is scheduled & decides not to visit due to the pandemic, please do not hesitate to call me as I will be more than willing to reschedule. I am looking forward to visiting with your clubs soon and excited to share my story with you.

Are you interested in helping our Lions clubs become stronger, happier & more driven? If so, then you would be a perfect fit to be a part of our developing NAMI (North American Membership Initiative). We are looking for club members to join us in our efforts. PDG Charlie McGrew has accepted the challenge of being our District’s NAMI Champion. If you are interested, please reach out to PDG Charlie or myself and we will find the area on the team that best suits you or that you are most interested in. Let’s “Open up for New Ideas”, put our heads together & increase our membership!

Again, thank you for all you do as Lions. I know this year is going to be a good year, in spite of the challenges we are facing. I really enjoy talking and seeing you all and cannot wait to spend time with you at your gatherings and events. The District will also be trying some new, fun & exciting activities & I hope you will all join in the fun!!

Remember, step out of the shadows, try something different, and you might be surprised with the outcome!!

Yours in Lionism & Service,

DG Chuck Thompkins
