Notes from the DGs

1VDG Message - Oct 2019

I hope all is well with all of you. September was a very busy month for us all, and October is upon us already!

I would like to give a special thank you to PDG Tom Gregg for a great job on his presentation of the new reporting system-MyLion- which was held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at the Westmoreland County Blind Association. And an even bigger thank you and kudos to those who attended so they could learn how to better support their clubs by reporting in the new system. I was very happy to see more participation and more involvement from many clubs in the District.

DG Dave also had a great turn out for the Club Officer Training which was held on 9/8/19 at WCCC in Youngwood. It was a great opportunity to get to know officers from other clubs while learning more about your roles and responsibilities as club leaders. Everyone also enjoyed the Ice Cream Bar and making Origami Cranes with PDG Lance Remic.

Another great event was the Vision Screening Training which was held on 9/21/19 and led by PDG Sam Snively. I was very impressed by the number of lions who attended so they can complete vision screenings in the communities to detect vision issues at an early age so they can be corrected. If you were unable to attend the training, please contact PDG Sam as he is willing to come to a club meeting to train you and your club members.

There are several upcoming events in November. The first is Mass Induction which will be held on Nov 6th at Lakeview. Please contact 2VDG Margie Wolff or refer to the invitation in the newsletter for information. I hope to see all new members and their sponsors in attendance as well as any other club member that wants to attend as the evening is a memorable experience for all. The second is the 2nd Cabinet Meeting which will be held on November 9th. The third is the second Club Support Meeting which will be held at the Westmoreland County Blind Association on Nov 22, 2019 at 7pm. Lion Amamnda Remic will be our guest speaker for the evening and she will be presenting information on a topic that is near and dear to her heart as well as all lions---Leader Dog. I hope to see you all there!!

In closing, I would like to thank you all for welcoming me and my partner in service-Lion Amy to your clubs during your DG visits. It has been a pleasure seeing familiar faces as well as getting to meet and know other faces. I am looking forward to visiting with the rest of you during your schedule club visits as well. And please remember, if you need help with any of your service projects or fundraisers, please do not hesitate to reach out to me as I am willing to lend a hand if I am available to do so.

Yours in Lionism,

1VDG Chuck Thompkins
