Hello Fellow Lions,
I hope you all had a happy and bright 4th of July. I hope you are all enjoying the summer thus far, and hopefully the rain is done. I want to throw a shout out to all the staff at Beacon Lodge as well as the Board of Directors, the committee members, and all others involved for a JOB WELL DONE!! Lions Appreciation Day was enjoyed by all who attended. The BBQ chicken picnic lunch was delicious, the weather was beautiful & the program was wonderful. The Duck Race and the Basket Raffle was also a big success again this year. I especially want to tip my hat to the campers--I really enjoyed the program and getting to chat with them.
I am looking forward to seeing all lions that can attend the Passing of the Banner on August 11th. I am looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and meeting new ones as well.
I would like to see our clubs try something new this year. For example, trying a new service project or combining with another club for a fundraiser or a new service project. Remember our motto is "We Serve", so let's get out there and serve! Hint hint, the District has some really nice and easy to use vision screeners. If you are interested in using the cameras, just reach out to any one on the Care-A-Van Committee and they will see that you get trained and ready to use the equipment!
I look forward to coming to your clubs and helping out with your activities in addition to getting to know you all better. Remember, if you need help or have any questions, please contact your Zone Chair or me for assistance.
One last announcement for everyone. The format for the Club Support Meetings will be changing slightly this year. The meetings will be held quarterly rather than monthly and each meeting will focus on a specific topic with a guest speaker. With that being said, I am announcing the first Club Support Meeting will be held on September 11th at the Westmoreland County Blind Association at 7pm. The topic of this first meeting will be the new MY LION reporting system and a presentation will be conducted by PDG Tom Gregg. All club officers & lion members are invited to attend, especially those who are responsible for reporting your club's service activities.
Yours in Lionism,
1VDG Chuck Thompkins
